Each of the quilt’s 56 squares has a story. About 50 of the squares were submitted by home child descendents from across Canada; the rest Perrier created to provide historical context. Some of the squares are elaborate and deeply personal, like the fabric painting of a white cat pawing a butter churn that a Morinville artist created in memory of her grandmother.

DR. MICHELLE LANTER BREWER served on the Knoxville Opera Board of Directors from 2010 through 2017, serving as Chair 2013 2015. During her tenure Michelle worked diligently on many Board committees, assisted the Knoxville Opera Guild in its activities, was a hands on volunteer at the Rossini Festival, and created the unique fundraising event Boots and Bustiers.

Nellie was the 7th of 12 children. The loving bond between Nellie and her siblings was strong, developed through experiences such as jumping all together from the barn into the manure pile, picking blueberries then being marched to the lake to wash up and lifting bales of hay at harvest time. Nellie attended Cairnbrogie Elementary and Dryden High School.
