By the time they graduate Grade 12, thousands more students will learn the inside story on small business ownership by completing the new and cutting edge program.Both of these programs, now available through the Alberta Distance Learning Centre (ADLC), are set to make a dramatic difference in career potential for young Albertans.Workplace Safety Systems and have been developed through partnerships with industry and business to ensure they are taught in a way that’s useful in the real world.Workplace Safety SystemsSince 1991, the not for profit Job Safety Skills Society (JSSS) has teamed up with educators, industry and government to increase job safety through proper training.In partnership with ADLC, JSSS has developed the Workplace Safety Systems course to meet the provincial prerequisite requirements for all students who plan to take a workplace or job training experience, and for students participating in the Registered Apprenticeship Program with their school.There is a two fold benefit to students: They will be equipped with knowledge in best safety practices, and the skills they gain will be applicable in today’s workplace.”We have partnered with industry, not simply to produce a course we think is relevant, but to know that it meets the needs of industry,” says Ray Battochio, assistant superintendent at ADLC.Workplace Safety Systems is available to all schools in the province. With successful completion of the courses, students can go through the evaluation process with JSSS to qualify for safety certification. They will receive a wallet sized accreditation card and a certificate that’s suitable for framing.Two additional courses are associated with it, including Workplace Safety Practices (HCS3010) and Agriculture Safety (AGR3000).
